Commitment to Transparency
Energy Fuels initiated the Piñon Ridge Mill process with an “open door” approach.
As part of that approach, even though not required, Energy Fuels has kept the State of Colorado involved in each step that is being taken from the initial site selection through the baseline and project design process. This transparent approach also extends to communications with the local communities, including Montrose County and San Miguel County.
This approach reflects the belief of Energy Fuels that the Piñon Ridge Mill will provide benefits to the local community as well as assist in the drive for clean electricity. Energy Fuels also is confident that the Piñon Ridge Mill can be constructed, operated and reclaimed in accordance with the strict environmental standards that apply to uranium mills with very small impact to mill workers and people in the vicinity of the mill.
We created this website to convey information about the proposed Piñon Ridge Mill to members of the public, elected officials and policy-makers. We believe it is of the utmost importance to engage the public early in our planning efforts.
In late March, 2008, Energy Fuels hosted public open houses in both Naturita and Montrose. In late May, a meeting with the San Miguel County Commissioners and members of the public was held in Norwood, Colorado. This was followed by 6 public meetings with Montrose County in 2009 and 2 public meetings with the CDPHE in early 2010. We continue to expend considerable time and effort to make sure anyone who is interested in learning more about the Piñon Ridge Mill has every opportunity to become involved.
Energy Fuels intends to periodically update this website to keep its readers fully informed about new developments as the mill goes through the licensing process. As new documents are submitted to government agencies, they will be posted on the CDPHE's website (refer to the Environmental Review and Permitting section).
During the upcoming permitting process, there will be several additional public meetings, hearings and comment periods as part of the state permitting process. There will be ample opportunities for stakeholders to make their voices heard.
By creating this website, hosting public meetings and genuinely listening to the comments and concerns of stakeholders like you, we can make the Piñon Ridge Mill a valuable asset to Western Montrose County and the United States.
